Letter from the President
To the membership of District 69 Darts
As President of District 69 Darts, it is my duty to find ways of keeping the costs down for our members. One of the ways, and most affordable, is to have meat shoots. Having meat shoots were in fact, passed by the previous executive 2018/2019. I won’t go into how it did not come into effect. After much thought and the start of a new season it was time to put that motion into effect. In general it does not cost the league any money. The money paid for meat is made up by the entrants of the shoot. The more players we have playing the more money the league will make. Without money coming in from sources other than membership dues and sponsorship fees I can only see our membership fees rising.
I have heard, that members have said they would like to see more trophies given out. We started with adding a few new ones last season. Lucky for us, the new trophies were donated by one of our members, Thom Ford - thank you Thom! For all to know, we have trophies that need to be updated or replaced. Trophies are not cheap and having meat shoots is one way of raising the money to pay for the new ones that we need. Some of said trophies have no room to place new name plates, thus the need for new ones. Another expense is the rising costs of food, which in turn, raises the cost of our banquet. The caterers always pass those costs onto their customer (us).
Unfortunately, I have heard nothing but gossip and innuendos. No one will come and talk to me face to face or even pick up the phone and call me to see what is going on. Why we need to have our own meat shoots. Instead you listen to a few naysayers and do not find out for yourselves what is going on. If you prefer to go to the Eagles Hall and play darts there, that is completely up to you. I am in no way saying don’t go. We are just trying to raise some funds for trophies and our banquet so our membership fees stay reasonable.
Others are saying that it should not be open to the public. How are we supposed to interest the public and garner new players if we don’t let them play and they don’t have the opportunity to come out and find out how much fun we have playing darts? Also by inviting the public we have a better chance of raising more money. The entries end up paying for the meat, not the league. All of the profits go to the league. So come out and support your dart league. By supporting the leagues meat shoots you are helping to keep the cost of our membership at a reasonable rate.
So if you missed our first meat shoot on October 19th, remember the next one will be on November 9th, and on the second Saturday of each month thereafter. So come on out and support your dart league.
Sincerely
Noella Ross, President
District 69 Dart Association
