Week 9 Dart Action
This is why it is SO important to let your team captain know ASAP if you are not going to be there, the following tragedy could have been avoided if the captain of the Warriors knew to call a spare! Heart-breaking details to follow:
Qualicum Legion’s B-Sharps were six strong against the short-handed Island Equipment Rentals Warriors, who lost seven points automatically, and wound up in second place with 15 wins against the B-Sharps 18 wins. Congrats to the B-Sharps for their first match win of the season! Leading the wins for the B-Sharps, Arless McNeill, took 3 wins, followed by Colleen McNeill with 2 wins. High scorer was Stan Foster with a 117. Leading the wins for the Warriors, Captain Ruth Kovacs, hit five doubles in her six matches. Following right behind her, Ron Hession found four doubles against the B-Sharps. High score went to Fish Trouton, who won 3 of 6 matches, and shot scores of 140x2, 122, and 100x4.

Playing at the Parksville Legion, the Cascadia Bristle Bashers hosted the Qualicum Legion Short Sighted Crew to a fun, evenly matched, game of darts. The Bristle Bashers started of strong, but faltered towards the end as the Short Sighted Crew picked up steam - final score 18 to 15 for the Bristle Bashers. Leading the wins for the Bashers, Terry Strawson, won five of six matches and had high score of 140, 133, 125 and 100. Hot on his heels, Basher Steve Collins had four wins in six games, as well as a high score of 133. League President Noella Ross must have been practicing for the upcoming tournament with scores of 134, 121 and 100.
The Short Sighted Crew, down a player this week, invited newcomer Darren Field to come and spare for the night. Darren loved it so much, he’s joined their team! Darren was discovered lurking in the Legion the week before, after having read about the darts in the local paper, and we are all so pleased you came out to check us out - WELCOME! Top wins for the Crew was a tie between two Brits – Peter Bisiker and Lee Page – both winning four of their six matches. High scorer was Peter Bisiker with a 140. Most prolific scorer was Ron Stanley, who shot 125, 120 and a 70 check out – making good use of that new eye surgery Ron!

Playing at their home venue for the first time in ages, the Allwood Finishers hosted the Eagles Hall Straight Arrows at the Qualicum Legion, and were victorious 20 to 13. Leading the wins for the Finishers, Richard Rempel won all five of his matches, followed by Captain Jolene Swanson and Larry Fuller, who each won four of five games. High score of 135 was shot by both Richard and Larry and Richard had a 120 check out to put him on the Leader Board once again! The Straight Arrows brought along a newcomer from Parksville, by way of Yorkshire, John Curtis, as well as a returning favourite, Pat Spinks of Qualicum Beach, to join the team for a night of darts. Some would say it’s beginner’s luck, some would not, but John Curtis was the top wins for the Arrows, with three wins in five games, and high scores of 140, 121, 100x2. Having finally convinced the statistician to correctly spell his name, Poul Reimer is being mentioned for his scores of 121 and 117, just so we can all see it in print.

Parksville’s Eagles Hall was the scene for the closely matched game between the home team – Eagle Eyes – and the Parksville Legion Shooters. The home team rallied in mid-match, took five wins in one set to get them back in the game. Unfortunately, it was a bit too late to take the lead, as the Shooters came out ahead by three – final score 18 to 15 for the Legion Shooters. Leading the wins for the Shooters, Larry MacDonald won all five of his matches and shot high scores of 121 and 100x 7!! Top scorer was Thom Ford with a 140 and two wins out of four matches. High out went to Lorraine Hopps with a 90 check out. Leading the wins for the Eagle Eyes, Tedd Ducker won four of six matches, and was bolstered by three wins apiece from team mates Alan Barry, Sue Barry and Harry Vanheerwaarden. High score went to Alan with a 101.

The Eagles Hall was a busy place on Tuesday night, with the Toolshed Triples hosting the Comfort Group X-Men to a night of fun and flights of fury – X-Men leading the wins 20 to 13. Top wins for the X-Men was Dave Wishlow with four of four turns at the oche in his favour. Steve Stewart and Todd Burnham were right behind Dave with three wins out of four matches to their credit. High scorer for the X-Men was the ubiquitous Fraser Vincent with a 135 and two wins out of four. Leading the team in wins, Toolshed Triple’s Jim Hood saw four doubles in six matches and the team’s high score of 131. Freshman Duane Holmes kept his flights right and found three doubles in six matches. The league newcomers are proving to be VERY talented!

Week 8 Dart Highlights
The Eagles Hall hosted the match between home team, Straight Arrows, and the Cascadia Bristle Bashers. In typical Basher fashion, they started with a bang and kept on going to a final of 23 to 10. Leading the wins for the Bristle Bashers was the dynamic duo of Steve Collins and Terry Strawson, both winning all five of their matches. Newcomer to the team, Warren Potter, showed his mettle and won four of his five games. High scorer for the Bashers was Captain Mike Driscoll, who shot a 132 and a 107. Wins were pretty evenly spread out for the Straight Arrows, twos across the board, and Paul Reimer took high scores for the night – 140, 132, 118 and 100.

The Island Equipment Rentals Warriors met with the Qualicum Legion Short Sighted Crew at the Parksville Legion for a fun night of darts. Armed with two spares, the Short Sighted Crew came out ahead 23 to 10 over the Warriors. Leading the wins for the Crew – Peter Bisiker and Lee Page – each doubled out before five of their six opponents. High scorer for the Crew was Peter with a 135. Sparing for the Crew for a second week in a row, novice Sandra McNeill won her first match ever against the formidable Chad “Fish” Trouton. Bolstered by her first win, she went on to win two more matches. Great job Sandra! Losing only to Sandra, Fish won the rest of his four games and had high scores of 140 and 100x3. Ruth “Root” Kovacs won two of five matches. Ron Hession shot scores of 122 and 105x2.

Also playing at the Parksville Legion, the Comfort Group X-Men hosted the Qualicum Legion B-Sharps to a fun night of darts. Starting off strong, the X-Men lead the matches up until the last leg, when the B-Sharps pulled four wins to their one, but it was too little too late for the B-Sharps leaving the X-Men to win 19 to 14. Captain Pony Moore led the double-outs for the X-Men with four of five in his favour. High scorer for the X-Men – Steve Stewart shot 140, 101 and a 100. Seven B-Sharps showed up to play and gave it their all. Top wins for the B-Sharps went to Arless McNeill, who doubled out all four of his games. Stan Foster won three of five games. High scorer for the B-Sharps was Captain Colleen McNeill with a 129 and a 100 in the same game.

Playing out of the Eagles Hall, the Toolshed Triples were the host to the Parksville Legion Shooters. Seven players strong, the Shooters took the lead from the get-go and came away with 27 wins against the Triples 6 wins. Leading the wins for the Shooters was Lorraine Hopps and Thom Ford – both winning all four of their matches! High score of 102 was shot by George Wallis, who won three of his four games. Leading the wins for the Triples was Doug White and Duane Sharp – both winning two matches each. High scorer for the Triples was Jim Hood with a 140.

Playing at the Qualicum Legion, the Bulls Hitters met with the Eagles Hall Eagle Eyes, and it was a closely contested through to the end of the night, with the Eagle Eyes squeaking past the home team to a 17 to 16 win. Leading the wins for the Eagle Eyes – Tedd Ducker – won all five of his matches and shot a 121 and 100x4. Right behind Tedd, Harry Vanheerwaarden won three of five matches and shot a 121 and 115. Leading the wins for the Bulls Hitters was Angie Kienas and Bernie Brockway, both doubling-out four of their five matches. Ray Jones hat team high score of 147 and Bernie Brockway had team high out of 109, putting him smack dab in the middle of the Leader Board.

Week 7 Dart Highlights
Parksville’s Legion Branch 49 was the setting for the match between the home team, X-Men, and the visiting Eagles Hall Straight Arrows. Coming out strong, the X-Men led the wins starting with the doubles matches, and continued to dominate until the last two sets, when the Straight Arrows matched them score for score. Final total 18 to 15 for the X-Men. Leading the wins for the X-Men, Steve Stewart and Dave Wishlow, each won four of six matches and Steve had a high checkout of 81. Glen Dilworth scored the high scores of 125, 119 and 100. Leading the wins for the Arrows was Don McIlhargey, who bested his opponents in four of six legs, accomplished by hitting the high scores of 140, 116 and 100x2. Solid support from team mates Ron Keast, Sonja Twamley and Paul Reimer, was seen in their three wins each for the night.

Two teams met for a match on Tuesday night at the Parksville Legion, with the AWAYS taking it from the HOME team – final score Legion Shooters 21 and 12 for the Island Equipment Rental Warriors. Starting the night off with a PERFECT SCORE – Lorraine Hopps tried to beat her opponent, Fish Trouton, but was bested in the doubles in the first game, but no others, winning four of her five legs and leading her team for most wins of the night. Congratulations Lorraine for jumping onto the Leader Board this week! George Wallis, Pat Bannister and Thom Ford each won three of their five games; Larry MacDonald had the high scores of 121, 100x3. Winning three of five matches, Fish Trouton and Darren Tabler, led their team in wins for the night. Dale Simpson shot high scores of 134 and 125.

Welcoming the Bristle Bashers to the Qualicum Legion, the Bulls Hitters did their best to keep the wins to themselves, but were out-played by the Bashers 25 to 8. Top wins for the Bashers, Steve Collins, swept the board and won all five matches. High scorer for the Bashers, Dustin Fee, shot a 174 thereby adding his name to the top of the Leader Board. Top wins for the Bulls Hitters was Alan Farmer, who took two wins from his opponents. High scorer for the Hitters was Ray Jones with a 121.

Leading the wins for the Finishers, Gerry James couldn’t be beat Tuesday night, taking all five doubles from the Crew. Richard Rempel only lost one match to the Crew’s Lee Page, leaving them both with four out of five wins each for their teams. High scorer, Richard, shot 140x2 and a 106. The High Out for the Finishers was 106 – putting Larry Fuller near the top of the Leader Board. Lee Page led the wins, and Ron Stanley had high score – 135 – followed by Lee’s 123 and Peter Bisiker’s five scores of 100. Good darts!!

Also ending in a 23 to 10 score, the Eagles Hall Eagle Eyes hosted the Toolshed Triples to a night of darts. Leading the wins for the Eagle Eyes, Tedd Ducker and Alan Barry, each won all five of their matches. With Captain Mike McNulty garnering the team high score of 139, squeezing ahead of Alan’s 133, 125 and 117 scores. Toolshed Triple’s Jim Hood led the wins for the team with three of five matches ending in his favour, followed by Doug White and Greg Holmes’ two wins apiece. High scorer for the Triples was also Jim Hood with a 140 and a 112.
