Solidifying their place amongst the top five teams to play in the second round of the season, the Parksville Legion Straight Arrows played their final game of the first round to beat the Express Custom Bulls Hitters 19 to 14. Leading the Straight Arrows in wins were Stu Dunn and Sonja Twamley, with each winning five of six matches played. Stu’s top scores of 100, 118 and 133 and Sonja’s 108 and 126 certainly helped them get to double out quicker than their opponents. Veteran dart players, Angie Kienas and Peter Spinks, topped the wins for the Bulls Hitters with three wins apiece. Top scorers for the Bulls Hitters were Angie with 138 and Bernie Brockway with a 121.

Showing no mercy at the oche, the Cascadian Bristle Bashers dominated the Toolshed Triples, missing only three wins in the entire match. High-fives abounded in the Basher ranks with Don Enochsen and Noella Ross winning all six of their matches. High scorer for the Bashers was Richard Rempel, dapper in his new team shirt, with a100x2 and a 140. Most high scores went to Terry Strawson with 100x4 and 123x2. Taking the first win away from the Bristle Bashers was Toni Crompton, followed shortly by wins from Alan and Susan Barry. Alan had a high score of 118, but it was Sue’s 125 that topped the score sheet for the Triples.

Playing neck and neck throughout the match, the Qualicum Legion’s Short Sighted Crew squeaked ahead of the Allwood Finishers in the last set to win 18 to 15. Top of the wins for the Crew was John Eyre, who also shot an impressive 171 to put him in 3rd place Men’s High Score for the season. Solid wins for three players – Larry Fuller, Fish Trouton and Mike Jacobs – kept the dream alive until the last minute. Top scorer for the Finishers was Fish with 100x2 and 140, Larry shot 133 and 134, and Mike showed his finishing prowess with a 104 out.

The British Bobby Warriors hosted the Qualicum Legion B-Sharps at the Parksville Legion. Closely matched for most of the night, the B-Sharps rallied during the last two sets to come out 18 to 15 victorious. Four wins each for Jason Samms, Arless and Colleen McNeill carried the team to the finish line. High scorer for the B-Sharps was Jason with 100 and 125x2. Arless threw 100x3 and 116, proving his practicing is paying off. Leading the charge for the Warriors was Dale Simpson with six wins in six matches. Kelly Kovacs topped the high scores with 100x3, 120, 132 and 140.

January 30th is the final week of the first round of the 2017-2018 season, after which the top five teams will play in the A-Division and the bottom four teams will play in the B-Division. Barring any major upsets in the final week, the Divisions are as follows:

Week 15 Results

It was a close match between the Express Custom Bulls Hitters and the Parksville Legion Shooters, with both teams scoring equally until the fourth set when the Shooters pulled ahead and ultimately won the match 18 to 15. Captain Lloyd Ausland and Tom Ford led the team with five of their six matches won. Lorraine Hopps won four of her six matches. Top scorer was Jim Fraser with a 140, but Tom was most prolific top scorer with a 120, and two 122’s.

The British Bobby Warriors met with the short-handed Toolshed Triples and scored 11 wins plus the 7 forfeited points from the Triples – final score 18 to 15 for the Warriors. Dale Simpson led the Warriors wins with four of five matches ending in his favour. Top scorers for the Warriors were Captain Ruth Kovacs with 103, Dale with 100x2 and Ron Hession with a 100. The Toolshed Triples team that showed put up a good fight against the Warriors, Alan Barry won all his five matches and Doug White and Jim Hood won three matches each. Top scorer for the Triples with a 100, 103 and a 140 was Jim Hood.

Qualicum Legion hosted two home teams with the Away team – The Short Sighted Crew – finding victory with 20 wins. Gentleman John Eyre demonstrated why he is at the top of the leader board for wins by winning all six of his matches, with a high out of 114 in his third match. Ron Stanley shot a 140, John shot 100x2, 120 and 125, and Don Punter shot a 120. Newcomer Lee Page led the B-Sharps wins with four wins in five matches. Along with hitting his first perfect score during league play, Lee also shot a 100x3, 135, 140x2. Congrats on the 180 Lee! Jason Samms shot a 123 and Arless McNeill shot a 121.

Parksville Legion’s Straight Arrows hosted the Cascadian Bristle Bashers and the Bristle Bashers came out victorious with a 21 to 12 final score. The T’s – Tedd Ducker and Terry Strawson – took top wins by doubling out in all five of their matches. Top Scorer for the Bashers was Noella Ross with a 165, putting her name on the Women’s High Score list for this season. Terry, Tedd and Richard Rempel all shot 140’s. Stu Dunn led the Straight Arrows for wins with three wins in five matches, which included top scores of 133 and 100x2. Sonja Twamley shot 127 and 100x2.

Week 16 Results
Custom Express Bulls Hitters narrowly defeated the Qualicum Legion B-Sharps with a score of 18 to 15. The best Bulls Hitter was Angie Kienas with five of six games won, followed by Anita Hopps with four wins to her credit. Top scorer for the Hitters was Alan Farmer with a 160 and Bernie Brockway shot a 100, 105 and a 115. B-Sharps Jason Samms and Anna Dashuk had only one loss each in five matches. Top scorer was Arless McNeill with a 135 and a 140, and Captain Colleen McNeill shot a 137.

Allwood Finishers met with the Toolshed Triples at the Sunset Lanes and bested the Triples 24 to 9. Larry Fuller and Gerry James won all six of their matches and Captain Jolene Swanson and Harry Van Heerwaarden won four of their six games, Harry had a 92 checkout putting him on the Men’s High Outs list. Top scorer for the Finishers was Mike Jacobs with 127x2 and Larry shot a 116 and two 118’s. Jim Hood won three of his six matches and Wendy Haines shot a 121 and a 102.

The British Bobbie Warriors fought hard against the Qualicum Legion’s Short Sighted Crew but were unable to conquer the Crew. New spare, Steve Bird, lead the Crew by winning all six of his matches and hitting high score with a 133. Captain Don Punter contributed five wins and John Eyre put four more wins up – final score 21 to 12. Dale Simpson again led the Warriors wins with four of five matches to his credit. Top scorer for the Warriors was newcomer, Kyle Hitch, with a 129. Welcome Warrior Kyle!

The Parksville Legion Shooters hosted another Legion team – the Straight Arrows – and found the doubles 23 times over the Arrows’ 10. Captain Lloyd Ausland didn’t miss a double out in six games, Viviane Papineau and Jim Fraser won four of their six matches. Top scorer for the Shooters was Tom Ford with a 114 and a 140. Stu Dunn led the Straight Arrows wins with four of six matches successful and top scores of 133x2.

Week 14 Results

Qualicum Legion team Short Sighted Crew and the Express Custom Bulls Hitters faced each other in a match that left the Short Sighted Crew victorious 20 to 13. Most wins for the Crew went to John Eyre and Captain Don Punter with five wins for six matches played. Top Scorers for the Crew was Don Punter with 133, Ron Stanley with 123 and Peter Bisiker with 129. The Bulls Hitters’ A-Team – Angie Kienas, Anita Hopps and Alan Farmer – all walked away with 3 wins each. Alan Farmer topped the scores with a 174, Angie and Anita both shot a 140.

Snow postponed the game between the Straight Arrows and the Allwood Finishers for a month, but when they finally got together the Finishers finished on top – 20 – 13. Larry Fuller and Gerry James won all five of their matches. Fish Trouton topped the scoreboard with a 140 and Gerry was close behind with a 135 and 133. Top wins for the Straight Arrows went to Stu Dunn, who won four of his five matches and scoring a 133 in his only losing match. Sonja Twamley shot a 133 as well, and Captain Shirley Ewert hit a 127.

Parksville Legion hosted two of their own teams – Cascadian Bristle Bashers and the Legion Shooters. The home team came out victorious with 22 games won by the Bristle Bashers. Tedd Ducker and Terry Strawson lost only one match each and top scorer for the Bashers was Captain Mike Driscoll with 132 and three 100’s. Legion Shooter’s Tom Ford was top wins – four – and top scorer – 124 and 100.
